Blizzard has published the official race-class combo list for Forever: Undead Paladin with its own levelling story, Gnome Priest, Dwarf Shaman and more. The new Skyborne race has also been confirmed, split between the two factions.

World of Warcraft: Forever has received an official race-class combo list: Blizzard has confirmed six pairs that were locked in regular Classic, and announced the new Skyborne race.

Six new combos

Blizzard's list includes:

• Orc Mage
• Troll Warlock
• Undead Paladin
• Human Hunter
• Gnome Priest
• Dwarf Shaman

Each pair closes a gap players have argued about for twenty years. According to Blizzard, this isn't the final list.

Undead Paladin: more than a checkbox

The headline of the list is Undead Paladin. It's not just another option in the character creation menu: according to Blizzard, the combo will have its own levelling storyline and an epic mount quest. The point is made that the Undead Paladin is a statement about lore, not just a tick on the list of available combos.

Skyborne — the new race

The new Skyborne race has been confirmed. It's split between the factions:

• Windshaper Skyborne join the Horde and can play as Shamans.
• High Order Skyborne join the Alliance and can play as Mages.

Nine classes and updated racials

Forever keeps the nine original classes. The big change is racial abilities. Blizzard has updated a number of them to support a wider range of class options while keeping each race's identity. Which traits have been changed hasn't been clarified yet, but it matters: in Classic it was the racials that defined the meta — Orc for Warriors and Warlocks, Troll for Hunters, Human for Rogues, Dwarf for Priests. If they've been rebalanced, the answer to "which race should I play" will change.

What this means for you

• Class matters more than race. A combo only makes sense if you're ready to play that class for all 60 levels. Pick your class first — race follows.
• PvP faction is decided up front. Keep in mind that the purely Horde combos (Troll Warlock, Undead Paladin, Orc Mage) immediately fix your side on a PvP server.
• Undead Paladin is a storyline, not a flag. If a separate levelling scenario and an epic mount quest matter to you, this is the only one of the six with unique content.
• Name reservations open on 27 October — by then it's worth deciding on your character.
• The list may grow. According to Blizzard, the published list isn't the final word.
