Without the NPC and the quest, some players assumed Blizzard had simply cut the character. A project representative wrote on the official forum that the quest will be restored: 'We're working on it. Stay tuned!'

Ahab's backstory is no ordinary one. The quest was added to the game in 2004 as part of the Make-A-Wish charity program — it was designed by Ezra Chatterton, a terminally ill boy from California. Blizzard brought the NPC to life based on his vision: Ahab's beloved dog Kyle goes missing, and the player helps find him. After Ezra's passing, the quest became one of the most recognizable stories in World of Warcraft, even though it was never part of vanilla WoW and only appeared in The Burning Crusade.

Players in community discussions and on Blizzard's official forum reminded the project team that 'Kyle's Gone Missing!' has long been part of Mulgore and asked them to make a timeline exception — to add a quest that formally belongs to a later era. The developers agreed and promised to bring the character back before the game's release on November 4, 2026.

• This has no effect on characters of other races or factions: the story is entirely about Mulgore and the tauren.
