September 24 beta build: class rebalance and Cooldown Manager test

24.09.2026

Blizzard has dropped a large patch for the World of Warcraft: Forever beta: targeted adjustments to all classes and a new UI feature — the Cooldown Manager, available for testing on five classes for now.

On September 24, 2026, a new build went live on the World of Warcraft: Forever beta servers. Kaivax published the patch notes — most of the changes concern the balance of damage and healing specs, plus a new customisable cooldown tracking panel has been added to the game.

Cooldown Manager

The build's main addition is the Cooldown Manager. It is disabled by default and can be turned on under Gameplay Enhancement in the settings. The panel pulls important abilities from the buff bar and action bar and displays them wherever the player prefers. Five classes are available for testing: Druid, Mage, Priest, Warrior and Warlock. The others will be added later. One caveat from the developers: spell ranks are not supported yet — the fix will come in one of the next updates.

Talent Respec

For the duration of the beta, the first talent tree reset costs 1 silver. Each subsequent reset costs noticeably more, but after an hour the price drops back to 1 silver. This is a temporary measure: the regular formula will return once the beta ends.

What changed for each class

Druid. Base damage of Wrath increased by roughly 50%. Healing HoTs — Rejuvenation, Tranquility and Wild Growth — can now crit. Thorns now scales dynamically off current spell power. For Feral, Mangle has been renamed to Primal Bite (the old name no longer reflected what the ability does, and the signature debuff has been removed), while Primal Fury has been reverted to its original name Blood Frenzy with its original icon.

Mage. Arcane Missiles no longer checks line of sight on every tick — only at the start of the channel. Wake of Fire now lasts 30 seconds instead of 20, and Hot Streak 20 instead of 15. Ignite is no longer "doubled" from percentage damage bonuses.

Paladin. Consecration finally behaves normally: damage applies to all targets in the area, the Z-axis doesn't jump around, and mobs aren't pulled along the vertical. The Holy spec has been reworked: Holy Strike now has a 10-second cooldown (was 12), and the talent Improved Holy Strike has been removed — its effect has been folded into the base ability. Holy Power now also gives Holy Strike an extra 15% crit chance. For Retribution, Vengeance procs on any critical strike except periodic damage, the maximum stacks have been reduced from 5 to 3, and Two-Handed Weapon Specialization now grants 2/4/6% instead of 3/6/9%. Retribution Aura now scales dynamically off current spell power.

Shaman. For Restoration, Riptide can now crit. An old totem pain point has been fixed: Flametongue Totem no longer stacks with itself, no longer lingers indefinitely, and no longer stacks with Flametongue Weapon or Windfury Totem. Tranquil Air, Windfury and Grace of Air no longer stack with each other, even from different Shamans in the group. For Elemental, the talents Elemental Fury and Elemental Alacrity have been swapped — the developers explained this by saying a crit bonus at the start of the tree is less interesting than a utility talent at low levels. Lava Burst ranks 1 and 2 have been buffed by roughly 10% relative to Lightning Bolt of the same level.

Warrior. Protection has received Focused Rage earlier — Bastion and Focused Rage have swapped positions in the tree. For Arms, Bloodthrill now procs more often (4/8/12/16/20% instead of 2/4/6/8/10%), but only from main-hand strikes, including Cleave and Heroic Strike. Slam's cooldown has been increased from 15 to 18 seconds, and the talent Improved Slam now reduces it by 1.5/3 seconds.

Hunter. Sonic Blast is finally available for tamed Bat pets. Furious Howl has been cut by 40%. Tame Beast does not work on creatures above the Hunter's level. For Marksmanship, the damage issue on leaving the Lone Wolf talent has been fixed. For Survival, Lacerating Strikes can now crit, and Strider Kick grants 30% movement speed for 3 seconds.

Priest, Rogue, Warlock, races. Renew for Discipline and Contingency Plan for Gnome Priests can also now crit. Power Word: Shield now always overwrites its own old shield if Weakened Soul is not present on the target. Rogue Sap correctly flags for PvP. Voidwalker Sacrifice for Warlocks finally scales off 10% of spell power. For Gnomes, Eureka now grants 10% off mana/rage/energy. For Tauren, Touch of the Grave no longer breaks crowd control from non-damage abilities and no longer procs from them, and Cultivation is tied to the level of the herb. Undead have a similar fix for Dark Sacrifice.

What this means for you

If you're in the beta — it's worth taking a fresh look at your main specs, especially Balance, Fire, Holy Paladin and Arms Warrior: the numbers have shifted noticeably. Cooldown Manager is worth enabling at least out of curiosity, especially if you play Mage or Druid: the feature promises to make reading your rotation much easier. For Shaman, the key takeaway is that you can no longer accidentally stack totems from allies and wonder once a week why your damage isn't going up.

If you're waiting for release — the notes show that Blizzard is actively tweaking balance throughout the beta. The changes that address clearly raw issues (totems, Consecration, Sap-PvP flags, Voidwalker scaling) will almost certainly stay in the final build by November.
