Blizzard was fixing WoW: Forever beta login issues on October 1–2

On the evening of October 1, part of the World of Warcraft: Forever beta testers couldn't get into the game — the client got stuck at the character list retrieval stage. Blizzard confirmed the issue and promised to fix it as quickly as possible.
What happened
Community manager Kaivax wrote in a blue post on October 1 at 19:04 UTC that Blizzard was aware of the beta login issue and working on it. This was not scheduled maintenance and not an access shutdown — players simply couldn't get in: the client hung at the "Retrieving Character List" stage and never moved on.
Testers from several regions reported the problem. Over the evening, r/wowforever on Reddit filled up with a thread of complaints about the same error; on the Blizzard forums, players kept checking in under "Anyone in yet?" to see if anyone had made it through. Some managed to log in after several attempts and some waiting; for others the error kept coming back.
According to MMOBoom, on the night of October 2 some players did get into the game after "waiting out" the issue. The same report, citing Blizzard, says that after the final fix, leveling to level 30 should go without a hitch — meaning the issue shouldn't have left stuck characters or lost progress.
In practice
- If the client hangs at "Retrieving Character List" and a restart doesn't help, try waiting and logging in later: during the outage window, "waiting it out" worked for some players.
- Keep an eye on Kaivax's blue posts and updates on the official beta pages — Blizzard promised to update the same post once the fix was in.
