Season of Discovery Class Quest Chains Coming to Forever — With New Additions
17.09.2026Senior designer Josh Greenfield confirmed in an MMORPG.com interview that some Season of Discovery class quest chains are already in Forever, others have been expanded, and new ones added. The runes that reshaped class roles, however, are not coming over.
World of Warcraft: Forever entered beta on September 17, 2026, and in the first days senior designer Josh Greenfield addressed one of the most-discussed questions in an MMORPG.com interview: what will happen to the class quests from Season of Discovery.
What's coming to Forever
According to Greenfield, some of the class quest chains from Season of Discovery are already present in the game. These are storylines tied to each class — the very chains that gave Season of Discovery its reputation.
What's new
Not all chains are a direct port. Some have been expanded with new steps and branches. Others are entirely new. Greenfield stressed that the work will continue: the team has enough time to finish everything that didn't make it into the launch version, since WoW: Forever is designed as a project without hard limits on the launch content volume.
Where exactly the line between "ported" and "new" runs will become clear through play.
What's not coming
An important clarification from Greenfield: the Season of Discovery runes that changed class roles are not being ported to Forever. The quests and their stories remain, but the rune-driven role-swap does not. The very idea of unusual class-role combinations — a shaman tank, a healer mage — doesn't fit Forever: it clashes with the simplicity and recognizability of classes.
Context
Season of Discovery had two different mechanics: runes gave classes foreign abilities, while quest chains delivered story and sometimes unique weapons. It's the second one that Forever is bringing over.
Another factor that makes personal class stories weigh more here: both factions will get all nine classes. The familiar "class determines side" rule no longer works, so a class-specific storyline becomes one of the few remaining ways to make a class feel distinct from its neighbor.
What this means for you
- If you played Season of Discovery and remember the class quest chains — many of them will be in Forever, but in updated and expanded form.
- If you were waiting specifically for Season of Discovery runes — they won't be in Forever. Unusual class-role combinations are being left out on purpose.
- Blizzard hasn't named specific chains for specific classes yet: no list of which lines are ported, or which appear at launch versus later.
- You can see what's already there in the beta: open since September 17, 2026, with the current level cap of 20 (later rising to 30).
