A torch that actually casts light has been found in Duskwood
30.09.2026Players on the World of Warcraft: Forever beta have found a toy in Duskwood — the "Night Watchman's Torch" — that casts real light in dark zones. The quest "An Unfortunate End" lies on the body of a slain watchman.
What they found
In Duskwood on the World of Warcraft: Forever beta, players discovered a toy called "Night Watchman's Torch" that casts real dynamic light: you can see the ground around you, dark trails, and dungeons. The item is obtained through the quest "An Unfortunate End" — it lies on the body of a slain Night Watch guard in Raven Hill in the western part of the zone, at roughly coordinates 47.9, 59.5. The body doesn't appear every time: if you don't find it right away, check back later.
How it works
The torch is a toy: it goes to your collection and doesn't take up bag space. Once lit, the torch burns for 5 minutes, you can relight it after 30 seconds, and there's no resource cost. There are notable restrictions: it doesn't work in capital cities and goes out immediately in combat — after a fight you'll have to relight it. The item and quest names on the beta are English-only for now: the Russian localization hasn't been hooked up.
Why this matters
Duskwood is already one of Azeroth's darkest zones, and Forever's updated graphics have made its nights genuinely pitch-black. Requests to add torches and lanterns have been popping up on the forums since before the beta; it turned out the item was already in the game — nobody had just found it. In the discussion, players recall that Blizzard planned something like this in the vanilla alpha but scrapped it; in Forever the idea is back. Right now players are running around Duskwood with torches, and the Blizzard forum thread about the find has been noticed.
In practice
- What it gives: light around the character for 5 minutes, relight after 30 seconds. No buff, no bonus — it's an item for atmosphere and dark-zone navigation.
- When it works: open world and dungeons. Not in capital cities, not in combat.
- Worth rushing at level 1: the quest can be picked up at level 1, but Duskwood itself is meant for levels 20–30. With the beta's current level cap of 20, you can reach Raven Hill if you play it safe.
