Blizzard released fresh dev notes for the Forever beta: a Cooldown Manager has arrived for five classes, talent respec got cheaper, and big tweaks landed across classes, races, and gamepad support. All of this is for the beta period only, until the full launch on November 4, 2026.

Cooldown Manager

The headliner of the build is the Cooldown Manager. In Blizzard's design, it pulls key information from the buff bar or the action bar; the panel's position is fully customizable. It is off by default — toggle it on in Options → Gameplay Enhancement. For now the Cooldown Manager is being tested on five classes: Druid, Mage, Priest, Warrior, and Warlock. The rest will follow later. One current limitation: the manager doesn't yet support spell ranks. Blizzard has promised a fix.

Talent Respec

Until the beta ends, the first talent reset costs 1 silver. If you switch spec again right after, the price jumps — but it drops back to silver after an hour. This is a rare window to experiment freely: a Paladin can try both Retribution and Holy, a Shaman both Enhancement and Elemental, with almost no cost.

What Changes Rotations

The biggest rotation changes. Druid healers (Rejuvenation, Tranquility, Wild Growth) and Priest's Renew can now crit — that shifts both gear choices and in-combat priorities. Mage's Arcane Missiles no longer re-checks line of sight on every missile; a check at the start of the channel is enough. For Mages, Hot Streak has been extended to 20 seconds (was 15), Wake of Fire to 30 (was 20), and Ignite no longer benefits double from percentage bonuses. For Warrior, Bloodthrill now procs from main-hand hits including Cleave and Heroic Strike, with a 4/8/12/16/20% chance; Slam's cooldown is up to 18 seconds.

What Changes Builds

Holy Paladin got a big cleanup: Improved Holy Strike has been removed, its effect is now baseline, and Holy Strike's cooldown is 10 seconds (was 12). Weapon damage ratings in the tree now scale by rank (25/29/32/36/39/43/46/50% instead of identical pairs), and Righteous Fury has been reduced to 60% threat. In Retribution, Vengeance only triggers from non-periodic crits and caps at 3 stacks; Sacred Arbiter gives +20% to Holy Strike; Two-Handed Weapon Specialization is trimmed to 2/4/6%.

For Shaman Elemental, Elemental Fury and Elemental Alacrity have swapped positions — developers consider early crit more valuable for the spec than late. Lightning Bolt ranks 3 and 4 have been brought up so they are a clear upgrade over the previous rank; Lava Burst ranks 1 and 2 got roughly +10% to base damage. Flametongue Totem no longer has a duration and no longer stacks with Flametongue Weapon and Windfury Totem; Windfury, Grace of Air, and Tranquil Air from different Shamans in a group also no longer stack. For Warrior Protection, Focused Rage and Bastion have swapped positions. For Druid Feral, Mangle has been renamed Primal Bite — the old icon and name poorly reflected that the ability no longer applies a same-named debuff; the Primal Fury talent has reclaimed the Blood Frenzy name and icon.

Smaller Tweaks and Races

Hunters got Furious Howl's attack power bonus reduced by 40%, and Tame Beast no longer works on creatures above the Hunter's level. From Survival: Lacerating Strikes can crit; Strider Kick gives +30% movement speed for 3 seconds. Priest's Power Word: Shield now always overwrites its own shield on the target without Weakened Soul. Warlock's Voidwalker Sacrifice now scales correctly off 10% of the owner's outgoing healing.

The Gnome passive Eureka now gives a 10% discount on mana, rage, or energy on any class. Humans' Will to Survive got the visual from Dispel Magic. Tauren's Cultivation has been tied to player level, and Touch of the Grave no longer procs from non-routable abilities — Distract and Pick Pocket can no longer pull Rogues out of stealth. For gamepad, class-specific fly-outs and the Compact Action Bar option have been added.

In Practice

  • Turn on Cooldown Manager in settings if you play one of the supported classes: damage and healing get more readable, especially in group content.
  • Talent resets are dirt cheap, but only within the first hour after the previous one — don't reset "for later", wait for the window.
  • Holy Paladins: rebuild your talents — Improved Holy Strike is gone from the tree; its effect is baseline now.
  • Shamans and group leaders: totems no longer stack between Shamans, duplicating roles in a raid no longer makes sense.
  • Sitting, lying down, sitting in a chair, or kneeling no longer blocks the campfire buff — use this during group buff-ups.
