Beta players spot Defense Rating bug on gear in Forever
28.09.2026One player on the Blizzard forums reported that several defense-rated items do not show their bonus in the character sheet: a Blacksmithing helm +7, a ring +2, and Kresh's shield back +5. The Anticipation talent and the +3 wrist enchant still work. No confirmation from the team yet — the report was filed through the in-game bug system.
By the end of the second week of the World of Warcraft: Forever beta, a suspicious bug with Defense Rating on gear surfaced. A player on the Blizzard EU forum posted results of their own check: several items that should, by their description, add to the total Defense value don't show their bonus in the character sheet.
What does not work (per the post's author, unconfirmed by the team):
- Blacksmithing helm +7 (Blacksmithing profession bonus) — does not grant the bonus.
- Ring +2 — does not grant the bonus.
- Kresh's shield back +5 — does not grant the bonus.
What does work:
- +3 wrist enchant — the bonus applies.
- The Anticipation talent on a Protection warrior — the bonus applies.
The items were tested one by one; the player re-logged and reloaded the UI to rule out an interface issue. The author filed a bug report through the in-game system.
Defense Rating in Forever is a stat that matters specifically for tanks: the higher it is, the lower the chance of taking a critical strike against the character in PvE. Once the value passes 5%, crits from regular mobs against the tank drop to zero — and that's one of the key caps a gear set is built around. If items really don't deliver the bonus to the final value, a tank may think they have crit protection when in fact they don't — and that's a survival and damage-mitigation stability question in boss fights.
Practical tips for those currently in the beta:
-
Tanks should check their set with
/run print(string.format("Armor: %d | Dodge: %.2f%% | Parry: %.2f%% | Block: %.2f%%", UnitArmor("player"), GetDodgeChance(), GetParryChance(), GetBlockChance())), as in the original post, and compare it with what the character sheet shows: if the numbers don't match, you're probably in the same boat. - Don't rely on Defense Rating from specific items until the team marks the bug as fixed. The beta runs until October 21, 2026, and raids open on December 9, 2026 — there's time to catch this before the content goes live.
- Your own bug report is the most useful contribution: the more identical reports the team gets, the faster the bug moves up the hotfix queue.
