Six "Impossible" Race-Class Combinations Coming to WoW: Forever
29.09.2026Blizzard has released an official video showcasing new race-class combinations that never existed in classic Azeroth — including Undead Paladin and Dwarf Shaman.
Blizzard has released an official video overview of the new race-class combinations for Forever, a version where the developers deliberately step away from the familiar classic Azeroth restrictions. The video is dedicated to six combinations that were previously blocked by the game's own architecture and will now become available to players from the November 4 release.
What Was Shown
The video presents six unusual combinations in turn. The video's framing walks the player through them as "forbidden" but allowed in Forever variants:
- Undead Paladin — a combination long discussed in the community: the Cult of the Light among a faction that officially turned away from it after being freed from the Lich King.
- Dwarf Shaman — dwarves were never tied to the elements in original Classic; here they gain access to totems and ancestral spirits.
- Orc Mage — magic for orcs is limited by orcish tradition; in Forever this combination becomes playable.
- Troll Warlock — a combination that made Blizzard's selection despite already being playable in original Classic.
- Gnome Priest — gnomes gain access to the Light and shadow, something Classic never allowed them.
- Human Hunter — humans traditionally could not be hunters in Classic; this is now fixed.
All six combinations are added with the player being able to see the same Azeroth from an unfamiliar angle — which is the core idea of the video.
Skyborne as a New Core Race
Alongside the new combinations, community materials surfaced information that high elves under the name Skyborne will become a playable core race in Forever. This is the development of a long-standing player request for playable high elves: in Battle for Azeroth Blizzard only offered appearance customization for blood elves and void elves. For now this mention only appears in wiki edits and is not confirmed by a separate official announcement, so it should be treated as unverified information.
Context
This selection is part of Blizzard's stated "don't play it safe" line for Forever. Instead of strictly recreating Classic, the team adds combinations that were previously closed off technically or story-wise. For the player, this means more freedom on the character creation screen and more reasons to look at familiar content from a different angle — for example, in unusual group compositions or on PvP battlegrounds with new racial abilities.
In Practice
- If you planned a character for a specific faction but wanted a different archetype, you no longer have to give up the setting for your favorite class.
- For raid and PvP compositions, this opens up new combinations of racial abilities with class mechanics — check specific combinations against the final aura and racial bonus table when Blizzard publishes it separately.
- If you were waiting for playable high elves as a separate race — keep an eye on Blizzard's official channels: for now Skyborne are only mentioned in third-party sources, without a separate announcement from the developers.
