Hall of Thanes dungeon spotted in Forever — Alliance's mirror to Ragefire Chasm
29.09.2026Forever guides describe a new group dungeon called Hall of Thanes beneath Ironforge: Dark Iron dwarves have broken into an ancient tomb, and players need to drive them out. It's the Alliance counterpart to Ragefire Chasm beneath Orgrimmar.
What's going on
Forever features the dungeon Hall of Thanes — an ancient dwarven tomb beneath Ironforge, part of the so-called Old Ironforge that never opens in regular Classic. In the story, Dark Iron dwarves have crept in to loot the graves, and a group of players has to stop them. It's the Alliance's mirror to the classic Ragefire Chasm beneath Orgrimmar: both dungeons share the theme of an underground Dark Iron dwarven war.
What's inside
Both guides walk the dungeon from entrance to final boss. The entrance is an open door inside Old Ironforge, to the left of the throne in the High Seat; the path leads all the way down to the dungeon portal.
The recommended level range is 13–18, and quests are given from 11 to 19. The quests themselves:
- Important Heirlooms (14, Old Ironforge) — collect 8 dwarven relics.
- The Restless Dead (15, Old Ironforge) — kill 15 raging spirits and 10 tormented souls.
- Old Ironforge Incursion (15, Dun Morogh) — bring back the head of Durgar Dirgehammer from the final boss.
- The Treaty of Understanding (16, picked up in the final room).
- An Ancient Grudge (14, picked up from the Spectral Caretaker inside the dungeon) — kill Faldrim Envilmar.
There are four bosses, in this order: Faldrim Envilmar (Mind Blast and Anvilmar's Curse — a curse on the tank), Magmatus with a summoner add (fire AoEs and Combust on a random player), Plunder (Knockback — his only ability; pull him into a safe corner), and the final Durgar Dirgehammer (AoE Fear and Rend, with two stone golems). Sources also give a loot table for each boss: from the Spiritwraith Drape cloak off Faldrim to the Robes of the Disgraced Thane off Durgar.
The guides also break down the trash: marauder dwarves hit fast and hard, engineers throw bombs (fully dodgeable), summoners cast fireballs and summon fire minions.
Why this matters to players
Hall of Thanes lives in Old Ironforge — that part of the underground city that in regular Classic was locked away forever. Forever opens it up, and the dungeon becomes the Alliance's first group hub directly beneath its own capital, mirrored against Ragefire Chasm for the Horde.
In practice
- If you're playing Alliance and leveling in the 11–19 range, Hall of Thanes opens right out of Ironforge — no long trek.
- Horde still goes to Ragefire Chasm by Orgrimmar; the two dungeons share a theme but are separate stories for separate factions.
- The An Ancient Grudge quest and part of Important Heirlooms are also available to Horde — but the route runs through hostile territory and guards at the Ironforge gates kill you on sight, making the trip impractical.
- The beta is already live (started September 17, 2026), so you can check out the mechanics and loot right now.
