Legacy System in Forever: 65 Challenges, Three Perk Branches, and Shared Account Progress

23.09.2026

Blizzard explained how the new horizontal progression system in Forever — Legacy — works: 65 challenges worth points, three perk branches with a 16-point cap per character, and cosmetic rewards for the overall journey.

World of Warcraft: Forever will get the Legacy system — a shared horizontal progression track for your Battle.net account. The goal isn't to chase levels but to clear everything the game has to offer: classes, professions, PvP, dungeons, raids, and world exploration. Quests award Legacy points — shared across the entire account and available to all characters except Hardcore.

How to unlock

Unlocks with your first Legacy point. The simplest path is to level your first character to 25. Alternatives: a primary gathering profession to 150 skill, or fully revealing the world map. A shield icon appears in the menu; press Y to open it.

Legacy Challenges

65 challenges across six categories, one point each:

  • Classes (27): every class to 25, 45, and 60.
  • Professions (18): a primary non-gathering profession to 150, 225, and 300 skill.
  • PvP (12): ranks 3, 7, 10, 13, 14; Exalted reputation with every battleground; week 4, 7, and 10 quests of the season's Path of Honor.
  • Adventures (2): explore the whole world map and complete Lord Valthalak's dungeon quests.
  • Dungeons (3): the final boss of level 15–25, 26–45, and 46–60 dungeons.
  • Raids (3): Onyxia, 13 bosses of Hyjal Summit, and 8 bosses in Barrow Deeps.

Legacy Perks

Points are spent in three branches: Professions, Adventures, and Resourcefulness. Each character spends points independently — so you can build different loadouts for different roles. At launch the cap is 16 points per character: newcomers won't fall behind veterans, and a solo player can realistically max out.

Point cap without alts: 3 for levels, 6 for professions, 12 for PvP, 2 for adventures, 6 for dungeons and raids — 29 total.

Professions

Overtime (more skill points, including Lockpicking), Bountiful Harvest (extra Scarce resources), Keen Bargain (cheaper at vendors), Efficiency Bonus (more often increased reputation with new profession factions), Chef (bonus prepared meals), Master Baiter (more fish), Diligent Study (daily reset on leveling cooldown, or free Elemental Essences at 300 skill).

Adventures

Well Rested (higher cap and faster accumulation of rested XP), Adventurer's Luck (restore health and mana on each notable kill), Vigilance (see farther-out stealthed units out of combat), Trail Guide (Camping recharges in less than an hour), Field Medicine (shortens Recently Bandaged, except in dungeons, raids, and battlegrounds), Talented (talents 5 levels earlier), Seasoned Traveler (cheaper and faster flight).

Resourcefulness

Gourmand (longer food buffs), Quick and Dead (corpses run to your body faster, party and raid buffs free after resurrection), Reinforcement (less durability loss on death), For Great Honor (more honor from PvP), Persistence (longer party, raid, and campfire buffs), Diplomat (faster reputation), Reagent Conservation (camp abilities and features without reagents).

Legacy Rewards

The number of points itself unlocks cosmetic rewards. At launch there are four:

  • Replica of the Ironforge Pneumatic Rifle — a toy: the rifle stuns other players and tracks hits.
  • Spectral Cub — a pet inspired by the gnome hunter from the Forever cinematic.
  • Spectral Heraldic Cape — the Legacy cape.
  • Spectral Bear — the Legacy mount.

Hardcore and what's next

Hardcore won't be in at launch. When it arrives, it has its own rules: non-Hardcore challenges aren't shown there, while challenges taken in Hardcore count toward every other mode. There are no PvP challenges in it — 12 new ones will be added by Hardcore's launch. With each content update, Blizzard promise new challenges, perks, and rewards — including ones for Hardcore.
