Dataminers combed through the open beta client of World of Warcraft: Forever and found unencrypted traces of a legendary questline Blizzard has slated for spring 2027. The fragments hint at three stages, a solo Archimonde encounter, an Elune ritual, and the involvement of every crafting profession — most of the content is still encrypted, and Blizzard has confirmed none of it.

Traces of a legendary questline Blizzard has slated for spring 2027 have surfaced in the open beta client of World of Warcraft: Forever. The quests, the boss fight, and the items themselves are still encrypted — for now, all you can read is what's scattered around them, but even that is enough to sketch the outline. The files were combed through by dataminers.

Three stages and hidden counter quests

Three stages are visible in the client, each with its own hidden counter quest. These are quests the player never sees — the game uses them internally to mark individual steps as complete. The quest names hint at where those steps take place:

• a conversation with a satyr at Barrow Dens near Moonglade;
• a pillar puzzle in the Un'Goro Crater;
• two counters labelled "Solo Encounter Completed" — solo fights.

Barrow Dens near Moonglade is a new zone in Forever; it has nothing to do with the Barrow Deeps dungeon in Northrend. Files nearby also hold items that, judging by their names, belong to the same storyline: "Pillar Fragment", "Wind-Charged Branch", "Nordrassil Root Apex", and the book "Roots in Stone" — "an ancient text on long-forgotten druid rituals".

A solo Archimonde encounter

The screen-effect database holds an entry titled "Legendary — Solo Encounter — Archimonde — Darken Skies". According to the dataminers, the fight itself takes place in a separate zone — the Russian client calls it "Archimonde's Demise". It looks like the player takes on Archimonde alone beneath a darkening sky.

Narratively, this fits with the redesigned Mount Hyjal in Forever: its storyline starts in the aftermath of Archimonde's fall, and the legendary questline apparently revolves around that turning point.

The Elune ritual and a raid link

A series of ritual spells has also surfaced: "Begin Ritual", "First Ward", "Lunar Infusion", "Lunar Saturation". One theory has the ritual taking place after the first stage of the weapon to unlock the second.

Two conditions gate the ritual: all six vessels must be placed, and the player must be wearing a "Bough of the World Tree".

The spell "Storm Charge" is described as "Charges the Nordrassil branch with the power of Doomstorm". A second spell, "Eternal Bond", has Doomstorm share its health with Sylvestris Dusksong — a boss in the Hyjal Summit raid. It looks like the questline will require clearing that raid. Caveat: the same character might also show up in a separate scenario or dungeon instead.

Every crafting profession

Profession-related items are almost entirely encrypted. From the unencrypted bits, you can see each crafting profession crafts its own reagent for the quest — the quest has six checks attached, so the reagents aren't coming from one or two professions but from every single one.

There's also a "Cenarion Circle (Legendary Event)" faction. Reputation isn't earned with it — it's a utility faction tied to the questline's NPCs.

What it means in practice

• Blizzard has confirmed none of this. If you're waiting on the legendary, stock up on patience until spring 2027 — or even longer: the questline could be entirely reworked before then.
• If you play a priest, shaman, or druid — this is the only hint so far that the legendary might be your weapon. Paladins shouldn't get their hopes up yet.
• The Hyjal Summit raid opens on December 9, 2026. If the link to Sylvestris Dusksong holds up, the questline will require downing that boss — keep an eye on blue posts and patch notes.
