Forever beta fixes Forsaken paladin bug: Holy Light hits your own character
01.10.2026The October 1 World of Warcraft: Forever beta build fixed a bug that prevented Forsaken paladins from taking damage from Holy Light during the intro class quest. Every cast now hits the character itself — Aggrend (Josh Greenfield) confirmed this was always the intended behavior.
A bug in the latest World of Warcraft: Forever beta build prevented Forsaken paladins from taking damage when they cast Holy Light during the intro quest. The latest build makes every cast hit the character itself.
What happened
- Forsaken paladin is a new race-class combination in World of Warcraft: Forever; regular World of Warcraft has never had it.
- The paladin's first class quest teaches the Holy Light spell. The quest requires healing 5 wounded Deathguards.
- Each cast of Holy Light damages the paladin themselves — it's part of the quest: using the Light on yourself or others causes Forsaken noticeable pain.
- The damage alone isn't lethal, but if the character is already near death, it can finish them off.
- At beta launch, the effect didn't trigger and players took no damage. The October 1 build — which raised the level cap to 30 — fixed the bug.
- Aggrend (Josh Greenfield) confirmed the quest was always designed with this effect in mind.
Context
- The Forever beta runs from September 17 to October 21, 2026; the October 1 build raised the level cap to 30.
- The Forsaken-paladin combo has been long awaited: regular World of Warcraft has never had this combination.
In practice
- If you're rolling a new Forsaken paladin and picking up the intro quest — don't try to heal yourself at the brink of death: Holy Light's damage can finish off your character.
- In normal situations the damage is small relative to your health pool, so it's more of an atmospheric detail than a real threat.
- Want to feel the mechanic for yourself? Roll a paladin now: older builds had the bug and many players missed the effect.
