No Shared Tagging for Monsters in Forever — Blizzard Explains Why
21.09.2026During the Forever open beta, players asked Blizzard to introduce shared kill credit, like in later versions of WoW. Lead designer Josh Greenfield gave a firm no — the team "has to stand its ground" on this one, because the convenience of solo play comes at the cost of harm to the community.
During the Forever open beta, players noticed an unwelcome mechanic: in the open world, queues form around certain monsters. Tagging in Forever follows the classic rule — the first player to hit a mob claims the kill and the loot. Anyone who arrives too late walks away empty-handed.
Beta testers asked Blizzard to introduce shared kill credit, familiar from later versions of WoW. Lead designer Josh Greenfield's response was firm and unambiguous.
"This is one of those things where we simply have to stand our ground," Greenfield said. In his view, the convenience of solo play comes at the cost of harm to the community, and the team isn't willing to pay that price. No changes are planned for launch.
In practice:
- Real queues form at popular farming spots — keep this in mind when choosing your leveling or gathering zone.
- Solo players keep their edge: no one can "steal" a mob mid-fight.
- If you're in a group — you'll have to either arrange kills in advance or look for less crowded mobs.
