Blizzard redesigned the priest in Forever: Fear Ward and Devouring Plague now belong to everyone
01.10.2026Official breakdown of the priest in Forever: the racial-only Fear Ward and Devouring Plague now unlock for everyone at level 20, gnomes can play priest for the first time, talents add Confession, Binding Heal and Prayer of Mending, and Light Well is gone.
On the night of October 1, 2026, Blizzard published a priest breakdown on the official site — the second in the series after the hunter and the druid. The developers went into detail about base abilities, racial spells, and talents, but warned that balance can still change before the beta ends.
Base abilities
The main change is what used to come from your race is now available to everyone. All priests learn Fear Ward at level 20 (dwarves only before): in the beta client it lasts 3 minutes instead of 10, on a 3-minute cooldown instead of 30 seconds. Devouring Plague also unlocks for everyone at level 20 (undead only before), on a 1-minute cooldown instead of 3.
Shadow Word: Death is a new base ability from level 32: instant shadow damage, 15-second cooldown; if the target survives, the priest takes 10% of their maximum health in damage (not in the beta client yet). Divine Spirit is now baseline at level 30 (it was a talent before).
For raiding, the biggest change is Prayer of Healing: it now heals the target's group instead of the priest's own. The priest no longer has to stand in their own party to heal another one.
Racial spells
The priest's signature racial abilities are kept, but the lineup is reshuffled. Each race has two spells. Gnomes can be priests for the first time and got two new ones — Dazing Flare (dazes up to 5 enemies) and Plan B (a guardian: when an ally drops below 35% health, it gives a shield and healing).
For dwarves, Retribution replaces Fear Ward; for humans, Divine Patronage replaces Desperate Prayer. For night elves, Starlight Shards has been reworked (now has a 30-second cooldown) and Elune's Grace (15 seconds of hit protection). For undead, Dark Sacrifice replaces Devouring Plague. Trolls are unchanged.
In the beta client, Plan B, Divine Patronage, and Dark Sacrifice sit on a 10-minute cooldown instead of the 5 minutes the article claims.
Talents
Talents open at level 10; tiers 11, 21, and 31 gain a new one-point talent at 16 points.
- In the Discipline tree, new talents: Confession (at 21 points, deals damage or heals), Soul Warding (at 16, reduces the cost of Power Word: Shield), New Hope (critical heals on Weakened Soul), Amplifying Light, and Twin Disciplines.
- In the Holy tree, new: Binding Heal (at 16, heals the priest and the target) and Prayer of Mending (at 31, jumps to allies within 20 m on damage taken, up to 5 heals). Light Well and Improved Prayer of Healing are gone.
- In the Shadow tree, Shadowform halves spell cost but the damage bonus is smaller. Shadow Weaving now only affects the priest, not the raid. New: Devouring Infection (spreads the plague to a nearby enemy) and Early Death (crits Shadow Word: Death on targets below 20% health).
