Forever adds a "Recent Allies" window — cards of the players you've grouped with

25.09.2026

Blizzard has added a Recent Allies tab to World of Warcraft: Forever: name, level, class, zone and activity of everyone you've grouped with. One button and the group invite is on its way.

World of Warcraft: Forever has introduced a "Recent Allies" window — every time you form a group with another player, their card is saved in a separate tab. It's a continuation of the "friction" idea Blizzard talked about just before the Forever announcement: small inconveniences push players to talk to each other instead of going solo.

What the window remembers

A player card holds five fields:

  • character name;
  • current level at the moment you played together;
  • class;
  • the zone where you interacted;
  • activity — what exactly you did together.

If your ally is currently online, a one-click group invite button appears next to their name. The people you group with often can be "pinned" — those cards always sit at the top of the list and don't slide down as new encounters pile up. If you don't have enough pinned slots — add the player to your friends list: Recent Allies works as an extension of the standard friends list, not a replacement.

Where this came from

Forever is built around the social experience, and the Blizzard team explained this in interviews with Game Informer and Windows Central before the announcement at BlizzCon on 12 September 2026. The idea is that familiar "inconveniences" — the long road to a dungeon, the long flight, the lack of shared mob tagging — force players to talk and form groups. Make everything automatic and people drift off to play solo. The "Recent Allies" window fits the same logic: it doesn't remove friction, it helps you not lose the people you've already pushed through that friction with.

What this means for you

  • Reconnecting with random travel companions gets easier. You grouped up for a dangerous foe, scattered — a week later the character you need is still in the window.
  • Finding a steady dungeon party is faster: someone already ran a dungeon with you, pin them — and they're right there.
  • The Hardcore community will find it especially handy, judging by comments under the news: several players note that a list of people they've already played with helps when picking a reliable party.
  • The privacy question stays open. Blizzard's own article doesn't describe visibility settings, but players in discussions worry that by default their location is visible to everyone who ends up in their Recent Allies.

Small but telling detail, really: Blizzard isn't only talking about the social experience, it's putting a concrete tool in the client so you don't forget the people you played with.
