Campfire at spawn point kills newbies during intro in WoW: Forever
27.09.2026Beta players of World of Warcraft: Forever discovered a way to send a new character to the graveyard before the player gains control: just leave a campfire at the spawn point — while the newbie watches the cinematic, the fire quietly finishes them off.
In World of Warcraft: Forever during the beta, players discovered a method to kill a newbie before they even enter the game: place a campfire at the spawn point — while the newbie watches the intro cinematic, their hero takes fire damage and dies before control passes to the player.
What happened
On September 27, two threads on the English-speaking WoW community appeared about the same thing: one player placed a campfire near the spawn point, while another was creating a new character — and after the cinematic found themselves at the graveyard. The news spread through the community.
The glitch is simple: in World of Warcraft: Forever, a character that hangs as a ghost figure during the intro scene apparently has no protection against persistent environmental damage. The campfire is exactly such a source — while the newbie watches the cinematic, the fire quietly drains their health.
Why it's unpleasant
Usually in WoW the starter zone is treated as a safe place — especially in the first seconds while the newbie watches the intro cinematic and doesn't control their character. In Forever, a case was recorded where a campfire placed by another player at the spawn point calmly finished off the hero during the cinematic.
In discussions, some commenters consider this a minor mischief and suggest the radical solution — ban placing campfires in starter zones altogether; others hope the issue will be closed by launch. The developers haven't responded so far.
In practice
- If you've just joined the beta and are about to create your first character — don't be surprised if you find yourself at the graveyard after the intro. This is a known glitch, not your mistake.
- You can try once to skip the cinematic with Escape: while the character is still alive, the fire won't have time to finish them off. The mention of this method comes from the author of one of the posts; whether it works in Forever — is not confirmed.
- After the intro the glitch stops being dangerous: nobody keeps a campfire at the spawn point permanently, it's a one-time "prank". If someone deliberately interferes — standard in-game report and contact support.
- The fix can be expected as a hotfix during the beta (it runs until 21.10.2026), or by the general launch on 04.11.2026.
