Boosting in the Forever beta: a player proposes three changes to leveling
28.09.2026On the official World of Warcraft: Forever forum, a user posted a detailed three-point plan to curb boosting in the beta and put the open world back as the main way to level up. This isn't a Blizzard patch — it's one player's reasoned proposal, but threads like this often turn into hotfixes during the beta.
The World of Warcraft: Forever beta (September 17 – October 21, 2026) has highlighted an old classic problem — boosting: a low-level character joins a group with a level 60 and in a couple of hours is pulled up to the desired levels. In Forever, according to player observations, this has become especially profitable: dungeons give so much XP for quests and mobs that they outpace the open world. A member of the official English-language Blizzard forum has published a detailed three-point plan for the XP economy.
The ideas work together and aim to make the open world the primary way to level again, with dungeons as a place for loot and company rather than levels.
- Quest XP in the open world — the fastest. That's not the case right now: dungeons are more profitable. Bumping up the numbers for open-world quests should restore the balance.
- No XP for grey mobs in a group. If any member of the party sees the mob as 'grey' (gives no XP to that character), the whole group gets no XP from it. This kills the trick of a level-60 doing the killing while everyone else soaks up XP. The proposal reuses the existing relative-level mechanic — no new system required.
- Roll back the dungeon XP changes. According to the author, dungeon-quest XP was 'nearly tripled' and mob XP in dungeons was pushed up hard. Returning those values to their original numbers — and dungeons will no longer be the fastest path to 60.
The author emphasises: the three-part combo addresses every side of the debate at once. Boosting becomes impossible by the rules, not by mutual agreement. Those who prefer the open world get the fastest path to 60. Those who love dungeons still have plenty to do — but for gear, reputation and company rather than leveling speed.
Dungeon leveling isn't banned: some players are happy to 'spend eight hours earning a level in a dungeon' — that should be a deliberate choice, not the only effective strategy. Right now, the author argues, there's effectively no choice: nothing in the beta is faster than dungeons.
It's important to understand: this is not a patch and not a Blizzard promise. It's one player's detailed personal proposal on the official Forever forum, posted on September 28, 2026 — on the twelfth day of the open beta. The thread has one author, who is also its only participant — there's no broad discussion under the post yet.
What to do with this if leveling speed matters to you at launch on November 4, 2026:
- Keep an eye on the official Forever forum. Blizzard traditionally calibrates the XP economy specifically during the beta, and reasoned posts with concrete numbers sometimes do become hotfixes within days.
- Don't treat the current XP numbers as final. The fact that dungeons outpace the open world in the beta is a player observation on a specific build; the balance could be seriously revised by launch.
- If you love leveling in dungeons — take advantage of it now while the window is open. If you prefer the open world — know that voices defending that style are already being heard on the official forum.
